Can Your Gutters Handle The Amount of Rain Dallas Gets?

As a resident in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, you know more than anyone that the weather can be completely unpredictable. During perennial downpours, you may catch yourself wondering ‘can my gutters handle this?’ Here at B&K Roofing & Construction, we install gutters for our customers. Here are some common issues that we find residents in the area have with their gutters.

The Gutters Are Too Small

It’s important that you get the right size gutter to match your roof and your areas climate. If for some reason your gutters are too small, you will notice a constant overflow of water during rains. This effectively defeats the purpose of your gutter, exposing the areas surrounding your roof to the rain.

If you have noticed this issue, it may be time to consider increasing the size of your gutter. A larger gutter will allow more water to flow through, limiting the amount of runoff water. Increasing your gutter size will help protect you during rainy seasons.

There’s a Blockage

Let’s be honest with ourselves, how often are you cleaning your gutters? Even just one storm is enough to clog your gutter with leaves and other debris. If your gutter is clogged it can lead to an overflow of water and potential damage to your gutter and roof.

We recommend staying on top of this by regularly cleaning your gutter. It doesn’t have to be after every storm but it should be on a semi-regular basis. If you have noticed an issue with your gutter, get in there to see if there’s a blockage.

Gutters Aren’t Performing During Heavy Downpours

Heavy downpours are the best way to see if something is wrong with your gutters. These rains will expose any issues which can be easy to spot if you know what you are looking for. Typically the number one sign of issues with your gutter is an overflow.

If the center of the gutter is overflowing, this could mean that there are not enough downspouts. It could also mean that the gutter is clogged or there is sagging. An overflowing near the downspout almost always means there is clogging.
